 GRAND COUNTY’S SUMMER CULTURE

Grand County, Colorado – Summer in the Rockies is more than just stunning scenery.  Come on up to Grand County, where the hills are alive all summer with music, art, and theater as well!

The season kicks off in June, with the Fine Arts and Crafts Fair (June 7).  Come stroll Grand Lake’s charming boardwalk, check out excellent local and regional crafts on sale in the town park, and enjoy music under the pines.

July is a busy month, starting with the KBCO World Class RockFest (July 12-13).  Relax under the sun on the grassy slopes of Winter Park resort, and enjoy two days of top-name artists and popular regional groups.   The following weekend, the national JVC Jazz series tour makes a stop at the same venue for the venerable 17th Annual JVC Winter Park Jazz Festival (July 19-20) for some hot licks and cool jazz.   The action shifts to King’s Crossing in downtown Winter Park on the following weekend for one of Colorado’s longest-running and most popular art festivals, the Alpine Art Affair (July 26-27) featuring more than 60 of the best national, regional, and local artists.

During August, it’s time for more arts and crafts, as downtown Winter Park is again taken over for the Colorado Craft Fair (August 9-10), now in its sixth year, with hundreds of local artists displaying their work.  For the Winter Park Resort Oktoberfest (August 23), the base of Winter Park Resort is turned into a little bit of Bavaria, complete with beer gardens, live German music, dancing, food, specialty retail vendors, silent auction, and a Kiddie Karnival.

Other cultural events are ongoing during the summer.  Grand Lake’s Rocky Mountain Repertory Theater offers three professional musicals presented in daily rotation from mid-June through the end of August, as well as workshop performances by local drama students.  On selected Saturday afternoons during the summer, the town of Grand Lake offers some old-time entertainment in the form of concerts in the town park gazebo and the Concert in the Pines series, with local and visiting musicians performing anything from jazz to pops.  At the other end of the county, the Zephyr Plaza Free Music Series brings a range of performance styles to the base area of Winter Park Resort on weekend afternoons.  And don’t forget the many shops and galleries throughout the county that feature the work of local and national artists and photographers!
