Winter: Grand County has become a favorite destination of families, church groups, adventure seekers and ski bums from around the world. With three alpine ski and snowboard resorts, 260 kilometers of groomed cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails, dog sled rides, snowmobile tours, sleigh rides, mineral hot springs, fine dining, crackling fireplaces, a mountain film festival and two winter carnivals it’s hard to deny that this is a winter paradise.
Spring: Don’t let the balmy weather fool you. Spring skiing – the t-shirt and baseball-cap kind – is some of the best skiing all year. From 'slush bumps' to deck parties, skate skiing to backcountry touring, spring a season of face shots, fresh tracks, and fun. At Nordic ski centers, racers come to battle it out as race season kicks into high gear. Off the slopes, check out Kremmling’s AVT Rodeo and Super Challenge or Grand Lake’s Cabin Fever Follies. You’ll also find great shoulder season deals on ski rentals, winter activities, dining, and apparel.
Summer: While the high peaks may still be sporting snow, the meadows are lush with wildflowers and the rivers are running fast. With long sunny days punctuated by refreshing afternoon showers, summer is the perfect time for hiking the high country, rafting the rivers or roping and steering at the local rodeo. Summer is also fine arts and crafts season in Grand County. Grand Lake’s Fine Arts and Crafts Fair and Artist of the Month exhibit, and Winter Park’s Art Affair are among several popular tourist events highlighting Grand County’s artisans. On top of all that, summer is a wonderful time to browse area galleries or hunt through antique stores for that coveted piece of the past.
Fall: If you’re in the mood for some down home western fun, fall is a wonderful time to visit Grand County. Hit the county fairgrounds for some dust-stompin’ fun, visit a local history festival or head out into the aspen-covered hills during Colorado’s prime leaf-peeping season. Take advantage of off-season rates on everything from dude ranch vacations to outdoor gear and enjoy some peace and quiet on the miles and miles uncrowded trails.
